Ikaru (a play on the Greek tragic hero ICARUS) was born with a pair of wings.  Unfortunately they're so small it cannot do more than make tiny flutters with some effort, and it has become a source of sorrow for the girl.  She tries to cope with the grim reality by immersing herself in a dreamscape where she imagines that the wings are bigger than herself and she can actually fly.
